Quick guide
A useful profile photo makes you easy to recognize. With an AI headshot, aim for a simple setting, familiar styling, and an expression you would use in a real conversation.
Keep the brief focused
Start with a recent set of clear reference photos. Then describe the framing, light, outfit, and background you want. You do not need to ask for a completely different version of yourself.
Try: ‘An approachable professional headshot of me, shoulders-up framing, soft window light, a plain warm-gray background, navy blazer, natural expression.’
Match the setting to your work
A neutral studio-style image can work across many contexts. A creative portfolio might call for a more relaxed setting, while a team directory may benefit from consistency with the other photos.
For a relaxed version, try: ‘A natural portrait of me in a bright studio, simple dark top, softly blurred background, gentle smile, realistic skin texture.’
Check it at profile-photo size
View the result as a small square or circle. Make sure your face is readable, your eyes are visible, and the crop does not cut off important features. A busy background can become distracting at small sizes.
Inspect the full-size image too. Look for unusual facial details, hair edges, jewelry, clothing, or background text. Choose a result that still resembles your current appearance.
Use the image thoughtfully
Check the rules of the platform or organization where you plan to use your headshot. AI portraits are creative images; do not use one where an unaltered photograph is required, such as an identity document.
If the result looks overly polished or unfamiliar, simplify your prompt and return to clear reference photos. The goal is an image you feel comfortable putting next to your name.
